Nunyara Retreat consists of the entire house over 3 floors. The top floor has a double bedroom, single bedroom/office and family bathrom. The middle floor has a bedroom with en suite bathroom, kitchen, dining room, living room and w/c. The most notable feature is the wrap around deck with amazing views towards Tamborine Mountain.
Nunyara Retreat has a self contained unit, being the ground floor of the pole house. Nunyara was built on a south facing protruding rock ledge right in the bush, and has taken full advantage of the scenery with windows and wrap around decks looking down The Albert Valley towards the backdrop of Tamborine Mountain (see dawn photo below) and The Lamington National Park beyond.
Nunyara is ideally located from The Gold Coast (35 mins) and Brisbane (40 mins) by car or train. However, it is so peaceful and quiet, you would not know that all of this is just over the hills! We like to think that Nunyara is so near yet also so far away!
Nunyara is a natural and peaceful location nestled in 10 acres of escarpment garden and rainforest, with private access to scenic walks, giving the property the diversity of native fauna and flora including Avocado, Bananas, Mangoes and other native bush fruit.
The name "Nunyara" is taken from the Aboriginal meaning of "healing place". Sit on one of our benches within the rainforest and you will soon discover how appropriate that name is.
It is like another world. No urban sounds, only the sound of the gum leaves rustling in the wind and the Whipbird forraging in the undergrowth. Wake up to the sounds of the bush, the songs of the birds and the peace and quiet of country living. Wander through the tropical and native fruit trees and try the different fruits or maybe pick-up a Macadamia, Avocado or a Passion Fruit.
It is wonderful to indulge yourself on the veranda with just the candles glowing inside and the garden lights illuminating the bush outside the window. Our private location allows one to walk around listening to the sounds of the crickets, the magic of the fireflies and look at the awe of the night sky without the hinderance of light pollution.
We love to feed the Lorakeets, Rosellas and King Parrots that visit and leave leaf for the resident Possums. The huge deck is an ideal setting for reading a book with that glass of wine whilst eating on the deck is an experience often shared by a wonderful array of native birds and, of course, our resident possums.
Whilst at Nunyara, we love to wander the grounds, spot the native Wallabies, Possums, Parrots, Lizards and Koalas or spot the resident Wedge Tailed Eagles soaring on the up drafts.
We live our environmental values and this can be witnessed by our dedication in protecting our acreage and our wildlife. Our passion for native conservation (we are active members of Land For Wildlife) has led us to continually seek to clear all foreign weeds (especially Lantana) leaving only native plants and trees. This is a never ending battle but you will enjoy the results: Elegant and timeless walking paths are sympathetically positioned in harmony with the accommodations unique location. Our hobbies therefore entails removal of all non native weeds and active replanting of natives, protecting our remnant forest and generally taking measures to reduce the impact on the environment.
Being wildlife carers with Wildcare , we rescue, rehabilitate and then release orphaned native animals onto our property. Depending on when you come, you may get to see native wildlife at very close hand. We do ask, however, that you are considerate of the wildlife and observe rather than interact!
We even have a very small waterfall, which increases in volume every time in rains - a short walk down any of our trails will take you to peaceful areas which really does seem to be in another world. We have dotted benches around the property for you to stop and take in the beauty of Nunyara.
There is much to do, or nothing to do. The choice is yours when you come to Nunyara Retreat.
