Crikey! What can you say? Steve Irwin's legacy lives on at Australia Zoo, where "Crocs rule". Very family friendly and worth a full day, it is about 75 minutes drive.
Brisbane's very arty Southbank, where gardens and an artificial beach meet QPAC and the Museum. Fantastic place to wander, eat and just chill out. This is a picture of the artificial beach, its great, you feel like you are swimming in the sea, but you can see the river and the city right infront of you!!
About 2 hours drive north, Noosa is the jewel in the crown of The Sunshine Coast. It is exclusive, trendy and beautiful. Hastings street is the famous street in Noosa but there is much more to it than that. Sunrise Beach is breathtaking and there is enough to see and do to make this a very popular holiday destination in its own right.
The worlds largest Sand Island, Fraser is stunningly beautiful. It can only be accessed by 4WD and is large enough to ensure peace and tranquility. About 3 hours North of Brisbane.
Surfers is a must visit place for anyone coming to Queensland, we're lucky...its only 30 minutes down the road from Nunyara. The photo speaks for itself...it really is so beautiful. Its also great for nightlife and shopping! The sand is simply amazing.
Straddie is one of my favourite places. Its great as a diving location and has the Southern most Coral reef of the Barrier Reef just off shore. It is a short ferry crossing and then there is only one tarmac road. The rest is off road. The whole island is a Sand Island. Its great for Whale Watching, Surfing, Sun Bathing and just getting away from it all.
More than just fantastic views and great bushwalking, the Botanical Garden and Planetarium just down the hill are simply wonderful. Go on a weekend and mingle with the Wedding Parties seeking THAT photograph!
Tamborine Mountain is the mountain you can see from our verandah. Its great for a day out, you can do wine tasting, shopping, or just walking or driving around the mountain, the views are amazing.
This is a great thing to do but dusk is particularly good as you can see the skyline at its best. Not as spectacular as the one at Sydney but then again its not as expensive either! Guides are full of information and you can drop into the famous Storey Bridge Hotel for a beer afterwards!
This is Tina cuddling Nero at Lone Pine. You can also hand feed Wallabies, Kangaroos and many types of birds. A favourite place. You can catch the daily boat that cruises dwn the Brisbane River to Lone Pine.
Brisbane is famous for its river. In September, there is the famous River Festival with spectacular fireworks and other events. The rest of the year, take a City Cat for a trip up and down the river. Its inexpensive and a great way to get around. The River does flow into The Pacific but the estuary is very industrial. Stick to the section in the city centre. There is a paddle steamer that does very reasonable dinner cruises. It is called the Kookaburra Queen. The office is by the Citycat "Riverside" stop in the CBD.
The coastline from Maroochydore north to Noosa is beautiful. Known as The Sunshine Coast, the beaches are clean, natural and relatively free of over commercialisation.
Set in the heart of the spectacular Lamington National Park, O'Reillys is a hotel, spa, walking centre, botanical gardend and much more. A wonderful day trip. Take a picnic!
Queensland's largest winery is only 25 minutes away. Often home to open air concerts, the location is beautiful. A favourite thing of ours is to sit by the cellar door on a Sunday listening to the live music whilst tasting the wines and salads.
